Change of the weather from hot summers to chilling winters and from winters to spring or monsoons is really heartwarming but for some, it is also very infuriating, especially those who have moderate or low immunity as they might end up with a sore throat and or a cold.
Cold is caused by the virus which spreads very fast. Worst still it is contagious and simple surface contact like spoons, keyboards, doorknobs or anything can transfer the virus to the other person. But like all other diseases, Yoga builds the immune system and help in the proper circulation of the white blood cells which are found in the thymus. When yoga is done the white blood cells flow towards the head and throat ultimately giving relief from sinuses and congestion.
I am suggesting you here some of the basic asanas that you can do to build your immune system and get relief from cold:
Hastapadasana (Standing forward bend): In this asana, as the body is bent forward, the circulation of the blood towards the head is improved. Sinus is cleared, nervous system gets invigorated and you are stress relieved.
Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward Dog stretch): This asana makes you bend like a dog positioning the chest higher than the head. You would feel the reverse pull of gravity which improves the circulation of the lymph and the blood. The inversion also allows a free flow of white blood cells throughout the body and help get relief from sinus.
Matsyasana (Fish pose): This pose stretches the chest and neck, gives relief from respiratory disorder and enhances deep breathing. It tones the parathyroid, pituitary and pineal glands.
Ustrasana (Camel Pose): Also known as the Camel pose, this asana opens the chest and clears the passage. When you are in this pose, try and breathe as much as you want, it would open up the blocked areas which are causing cold.
Viparita Karani (Leg up pose): It is a great pose for practicing to face counter respiratory ailments. Whenever you practice this asana, you would get immediate relief from headaches or backaches that generally happen due to cold. This asana gives instant relief to the mind and makes you strong.

Besides pranayama and some breathing exercises also helps get relief from the cold by clearing the nasal passage. Some of the pranayama exercises are:

Bhastrika Pranayama: The inhalation and exhalation breathing process with the upward and downward movement of the arms clears the nasal passage.
Ujjayi Pranayama: This process increases the capacity of lungs, increase toxin level with each exhalation.
